The Hispanic Heritage Youth Awards (HHYA) is an annual event that honors young Latino leaders who demonstrate success in the classroom and the community in an effort to encourage other young people to recognize education as a vehicle to achieve. HHYA celebrates its commitment to education by awarding grants for college and funding for a community service project, completely orchestrated by the student.
All Hispanic high school juniors are invited to apply for up to $3,000 in scholarships and other benefits in one of twelve regions across the country. Within each region, students are eligible to submit their application in as many categories as they choose. Awards are then bestowed upon three recipients in each category from the twelve regions. As a Regional winner, students are automatically eligible to be selected as the HHYA National recipient.
-
Regional HHYA Recipients Receive: $1,000 educational grant to use for their college education or to fund a community service effort the student will plan, oversee and sustain
-
National HHYA Recipients Receive: A laptop computer and paid trip to the National Youth Awards Ceremony (Location TBA)
In recognition of their hard work and dedication to improving their communities, ceremonies are held with local business, education and community leaders to pay tribute to all HHYA recipients.
The spirit of HHYA strives to inspire and promote young leaders who demonstrate the drive to achieve in the classroom and are able reach beyond their peers to make a difference in the community. HHYA is searching for motivated individuals who can stand as role models for young Latinos and now, it is your turn to be recognized as a leader in your community.
